An immersive series of cross-disciplinary installations by three artists from across the Indian Ocean rim.
Tactile, luminous and sonic new artworks interact with one another, conveying stories of the land and waterways of Marapikurrinya Yintha, or Port Hedland, in the remote Pilbara of Western Australia. This ancient delta and the expansive floodplains that surround it have long been an important gathering place for Kariyarra people. Colloquially known as mirage country, it is today one of the world’s largest iron ore exportation ports. Through a variety of craft-based media, artists draw to the surface lost or submerged narratives relating to this complex and unique region, from its deep time ecological histories, modern industrial-cultural realities
and rich multicultural populations.
